So who is really price gouging the public in gasoline? In the most recent quarter, ConocoPhillips made about 9 cents a gallon, when gasoline was selling for $2.60 a gallon. That’s a profit margin of 3.5 percent.
In that same period the Federal Government made 18.4 cents per gallon. State governments made anywhere between 14 and 44 cents per gallon.
