I slept well last night – as well as one can sleep in a strange hotel room. The internet access here is poor. Although I can surf the net, the speed in very erratic and I cannot do work on it – very disappointing.
I’m not getting ready to head out the door to the client’s site.
Posted by The Vorlon at November 28, 2005 7:12 AMI was in a hotel in Chicago back in May that advertised 'full wireless internet access'.
Couldn't connect from the room. The staff was no help at all. Went 4 days without any internet access.
They just don't have it all together yet, but it is getting better.
Posted by: Reb Orrell at November 28, 2005 7:34 AMA few weeks back, I used WiFi in two La Quintas. One was in Rock Springs Wy and the other was in Omaha Ne. It worked great! The desk person was no help in that she didn't even know what WiFi was. But, it was easy to set up and get working.
I was able to VPN back into the state network and use my Road Warrior phone to make phone calls on the state network. I was literally using my office phone and email in a La Quinta in Rock Springs. When I talked to people in the office, they assumed that I was back at work. The sound quality was excellent. No jitter or lost packets but then again, I don't imagine there is a lot of internet traffic in Rock Springs.
Between my laptop and my AK-47, I was prepared for anything on that trip.
Posted by: Ned Swift at November 28, 2005 11:35 AMI"ve got to tell Ned I don't have the Foggiest idea what he's talking about. All I can discern is it has something to do with trying to get connected when when one is out of town?
