Today was not too bad, but I was pretty tired most of the day and took a nap about 11:30 this morning.
I had my treatment today. The good news was that my white cell count was nice and healthy. I go in tomorrow for my Neulasta shot and then I’m out of jail for two weeks!
My red cell count and hemoglobin counts were on the low side, so they also gave me an Aranesp shot.
So far the swelling my feet, ankles and calves is very little. If this goes as before, I expect much swelling about a week before my next treatment.
Oh and on the financial front, it seems my co-pays ($20) have reached a max and now I can walk in, get treated and not pay anything. Of course, I’m shelling out some $13,000 in insurance premiums each year.
I hear word from a friend whose father is in the hospital and not doing well at all. My prayers are with your father, Reb.
Posted by The Vorlon at September 22, 2006 8:51 PMActually, my father wasn't admitted to the hospital yesterday. He was there for the end half of his Tuesday & Friday treatments. He received plasma and blood, which is almost a weekly routine. He also got two bags of IV because of kidney failure. With the chemo treatment and phenomia he doesn't feel much like eating or drinking. Though week, we were able to bring him home last night. He'll now have a three day vacation until he goes back on Tuesday. The CAT Scan yesterday showed that his one lung was really rough with the phenomia, but the doctor's think the worst has passed for that problem. He is in his second cyle of chemo treatment and has reached the point of that treatment that the doctors call 'the pits'. No energy, some pain, and no desire to eat or drink.
Posted by: reborrell at September 23, 2006 7:53 AMI understand. Been there, done that, but no T-Shirt.
He needs to experiment with different foods. I rely on Boost Plus. It's not that great, but I just bite the bullet and get it down. Tell him to think of food as medicine, because it is.
Posted by: Ted at September 23, 2006 9:23 AMOh. Strawberry flavor is the only one I'll drink.
Posted by: Ted at September 23, 2006 9:24 AMIsn't it great how people are always with you cheering you on through difficult times? For you Ted, I'm just praying that your energy begins to return soon and you can have better days. I honestly believe it's coming. The price is very high. $13,000 a year for your insurance. Wow! But, thinking on the positive side, we're so glad you're able to pay it so your treatments can continue (tough as they are).
And a message to Reb also. We'll be keeping your father and your family in our prayers also. He has had to endure so much too. He's very fortunate to have you as a son that cares very much for him. Bless you.
Our prayers for both of you, and for the many others facing illness in one way or another. God Bless each of you, and bless and care for the beautiful people that care for their loved ones. They're heroes as well. Ruth
