The Vorlon Dog seems much more relaxed today. He slept part of the night with us last night. He seems to have a problem with his left ear. The animal shelter said they checked his ears and everything was OK.
But I’m going to have a vet look at him.
In the middle of the night, he scratches his ear and for a little dog, he can shake he whole bed. After scratching his ear, he does a head to toe shake. That too shakes the whole bed and sounds like a propeller driven airplane winding up.
He eventually settled down.
Today he seemed much more relaxed.
He really likes going for walks. If he sees the leash in your hand, he is ready to go.
So far, he has only one bad habit. He’s a licker. When he sits beside you on the sofa, he likes to lick you hand, arm or any exposed flesh. Do you know what kind of things dogs like to lick? I really don’t want a tongue that licks that kind of stuff, licking me.
Posted by The Vorlon at October 29, 2006 7:49 PMIt is my understanding that when an animal licks or grooms another it is a sign of affection and gratitude. My dog does it as well and I scratch his neck or pet him in return and tell him I appreciate him as well. He then focuses on what I'm doing and stops licking and is pleased at the attention. The other option is that he is marking you and that form of marking territory is much preferred to what they do outside to mark their space. Thank goodness they know the difference .
Sounds as though he is making himself right at home. Did he go to the office today?

Posted by: Mom and Dad at October 30, 2006 12:43 PMI wouldn't worry about what a dog licks. It is safer to be licked by a dog than another person because even though they have roughly same or more bacteria in their mouths as humans do, the bugs are not compatible with human DNA and as such are not transferrable.

Labs would rather have a ball in their mouth then bones for some reason so -that usually keeps them from licking much.
