December 14 Final Update

I stayed home today. I barely had the strength to get my Neupogen shot this morning. I spent a good deal of my time napping. I’m starting to hurt and am taking some pain killer in the hopes of being able to get a good night’s sleep.

Danny Boy is taking to liking to have his stomach rubbed. This is a somewhat new behavior. If he feels you aren’t doing a good enough job, he wiggles around to better expose his belly.

I think it shows confidence in us and perhaps his stitches are well healed and no longer sensitive.

I’m still concerned that he is not better socialized. He barks at strangers to the house. Right now we lock him away until they go.

The physical therapist, whose name is Danny, stopped by gave some more exercises to do.

Now I’m off to bed as soon as the Vorlon Wife returns from choir practice.

The choir wanted to stop by and sing some Christmas carols to me. While I appreciate the sentiment, I just want to go to bed.

Our previous cocker, Lacey, was dubbed the 'Belly Rub Queen'. She took belly rubs very seriously. It appears that Brandi also enjoys her belly rubs also. She'll lay on me, while I'm sitting in the recliner, for hours, getting her belly rub.

Don't worry about Danny. He knows his home is supposed to be protected. That is what he is doing. It's just his natural instinct to bark when someone is around.

We've got a bit of a boisterous household ourselves when someone comes to the door. Usually only lasts a minute, but I'm trying something new. I've been told that when someone new comes to make sure that they do not look at Brandi (she's my socialization problem). Once Brandi is used to the person being there and aware that everything is o.k. then she will be. You might try keeping a leash by the front door temporarily to ensure he stays in a sitting position and train him not to bark (not an easy feat, but possible). I did that fairly successfully with Lacey. I just wish I had known to follow up with hand signals.

I agree with Nora. Think that if you put Danny Boy on a leash before you let any one in and make him sit beside you he will soon calm down when he
sees that your guest ane not a threat to you or
Karol. Also you could try using a muzzle on him.
We put one on Cubby when Nuriel comes as he has
never been around little children. Then we don't have to worry about her getting bitten. He is getting crippled up with arthritis and in pain quite a bit.
