Something about the heat really tires one out. I went to Pennsylvania and picked up my two brothers and my sister-in-law. I had appointments to see two houses. The first one had a lovely little brook at the end of the back yard. I looked at the house on the other side of the creek, a flood had taken out their deck at one time, and it was still hanging there over the bank of the stream. It reminded us of the mudslides in California. I looked around at the back yard and saw the muddiness of the flood plain where the house I was looking at was built. Forget that one.

Nest house. It was a charming little house. It has a lovely living room with fireplace and lovely bow windows looking out at the side. The dinning room was also lovely and came with nice dinning room furniture. It had hard wood floors. The kitchen was a galley kitchen and there was a great room adjoining it with an office room off to the side and a stairway door to the finished basement. Upstairs were two lovely bedrooms. However, the windows on the stairway were black. We looked outside and they were covered over with stucco siding. I don't know why someone would do that. Now the weird thing about this place is that there are two separate basements. The old basement was a stone foundation with the mortar crumbling and obviously, water leaks in. The front porch was concrete slab with cracks all across and one of the brick columns was cracked. It had a nice side yard and was a corner property on a dead end street. The back yard had a drive with some kind of trelliswork that may be a carport but open trellis top. A nice little storage shed was at the end of the carport - trellis area. The other side was close to the neighbors and you couldn't do much with it. The back yard was a disaster. It looked like a dumping ground and it backed up to the railroad. I' have lived next to railroad and you get used to it. After a while, you don't know it's there. The same with the close proximity to the Philadelphia Airport. The side yard had a little pond with a fountain. It wasn't working but it looked cute. All in all, it looked like too much work needed to be done on it. We stopped at WaWa to get some sandwiches. We were hot from the heat, as the air-conditioning was not turned on. We wee hungry as we had not eaten and it was 2:30pm. We saw an open house near the WaWa so went in for a quick look. It was in perfect condition buy had no fireplace and the rooms were small. It was a Cape Cod with a raised roof dormer. It had a lovely kitchen, two baths and a big fenced in back yard for Danny Boy. It was, however, more expensive. I guess I'm going to have to pay more and get a house that is suitable.

Dear Karol,
I lost my address book card with your numbers on it somehow. When I went to look for it after I got home in February it was gone. I thought I had your numbers in my mobil phone but, when I call the number the last few times it tells me it is no longer in service. I never got Teb's cell phone number. So please e-mail me your cell phone and home phone number so I can call. I think about you often and wanted many times on the weekend to call but never got through. Take care know we care. Affectionately, Cheryl & Owen

Hi Karol,

Looking at homes can be rather disheartening at times. I think I mentioned to you that when I was looking for a home years ago, I looked at a lot of sad looking places. People often just don't take good care of their investments. You'll find just the right home for you one of these days. But, as you said, you really don't want to buy something that needs work right off the bat. It seems like most homes have some nice features and some that aren't so nice. You'll find that happy medium one of these days. It's nice that your brothers and sister-in-law can help you in your search.

We finally got about a 5 hour rain shower a couple of days ago. That's enough to help a little. It will surely help the yards and flowers and trees, but the corn may be lost. We went too long without rain I'm afraid. We are having days of very high humidity now. Makes it almost impossible to do yard work unless you get up at 4 a.m. or stay out late and try to get something done. Our Michigan summer has been as hot as I can ever remember one being. It's been just about non-stop hot.

Take good care of yourself - you're very precious cargo. Ruth
