I did tow dirty jobs today. I sanded the doors. I put on Ted’s mask and goggles. I also put on the leather gloves that Sonia found for me in Wal-Mart. They are ladies work gloves and have a trimmer fit than the men’s work gloves that I used to wear. I carried the sawhorses out to the garage and the sander and sandpaper and an extension cord. I started with a coarse sand paper. Sanded both doors with it and then used a medium grade followed by a fine grade of sandpaper. I then went over the doors with some fine steel wool, dusted it off with a rag and then used the tack cloth. There are still some more steps I have to do to finish the doors but the sanding was the hardest part. If I had known I could do the sanding, I could have gotten it done years ago. Sanders scared me. I guess it’s the noise. When I was 4 years old, we moved to a new house. My father rented a sander for the hardwood floors. I didn’t know what that was. It looked sort of like a vacuum cleaner but made a very loud noise. I was afraid of it.
Another dirty job was sweeping the cellar stairs and vacuuming the basement. I just did a small portion but had to bring the vacuum cleaner up to empty it. I have two other jobs that will have to be done. The grass needs cutting and the fish tank needs cleaning but that can wait for another day.
News from the Vorlon Wife.
Hi Karol,
What a great job you did to sand the doors. You were brave indeed. I'm so proud of you. I think you're right about the noise of some tools - they sound like waaaaaaay too much for us timid little females. Nope, anything the guys can do, we can do at least as well - right? I found out I could do a lot of things when I was alone too. I've always been proud that I learned I was capable of doing some of the things that men generally do. It's an empowering feeling. And, I am a firm believer that YOU can accomplish anything you set your mind to do. You're truly a great lady and a great role model for many of us.
Our weather changed very quickly. From the air conditioner to the furnace within a day or two of each other. We have even talked of getting our electric blanket back on the bed. It seems impossible that we're discussing this because of the extremely hot weather we had been having. The newspaper tells us that it may get rather warm again the latter part of this week. I have been wondering if you're temps are still as high as they were?
Thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Keep up the very fine work you do Karol Armstrong. One of your many strong supporters, Ruth

I woke up this morning and rached for the switch to the overhead fan and found it was not on. The temp had dropped to 47 degrees and the downstairs was still too warm to permit the furnace from kicking on. I reached for Danny and pulled him over to keep me warm.
