I went to church this morning. They had the children's Christmas play so the choir didn't sing. The children sang and put on a nice little play. I helped Ursula with the finances afterward by making copies of the checks and totaling them up for her. I went down to Sunday School where we are studying Adam Hamilton's book, "The Journey". It is a 28 day study guide for Advent. I was about 3 weeks behind. I think I am caught up but have to ready a segment every night besides my reading the Bible in a year. I was behind on that but am a little ahead now.
After church, I took my grand niece's birthday gift over to her. I got her a hop scotch game and she said, "I don't know what this is." I told her and her mother said it was a fun game that her students play at school. So, Ryleigh looked a little happier. I think she will like it when she starts playing with it.
I thought it was a cool gift but it reminded me of when I bought my niece, Tina a sled for Christmas. I thought a sled was a really cool gift but it hadn't snowed for a couple years and she had no idea what a sled was or what it was for. I thing it was 60 degrees that Christmas.
I guess sometimes, one strikes out.

Posted by tedkarol at December 16, 2012 6:38 PMI find I need to ask my daughter about what the kids like. For instance, Charlotte never liked dolls but now at 6, Barbies are a must. Had I not asked, I would not have bought a Barbie. Of course this Barbie is a palentologist. Any old Barbie would not do.
Posted by: Phyllis at December 17, 2012 1:14 PMHi Karol, I am also feeling deep pain because of the horror at Sandy Hook Elementary in CT. This mass shooting has touched all of us because of the horror of knowing the children were so very young. They must have been so terified and there was nothing they could do, nor was there anyone that could help them. At their sweet and tender age, they always knew there were countless people in their lives that loved and helped them to understand a mysterious situation, someone to comfort them when they were frightened, someone to comfort them in sickness, someone to comfort them in fear. They were completely helpless and at the mercy of a crazed person who brought such terrible evil with him as he came into their classroom. Difficult, if not impossible, for anyone of us to even begin to comprehend the pain and suffering of the families of these precious children. Christmas has become a nightmare instead of a joy in the homes of the families of these beautiful children. We had prayers at church yesterday in both our Sunday school class and our church service. I have found myself crying so often. Yesterday in our church service, our young children recited scriptures they have learned and sang 3 Christmas songs. These children are also 6 and 7 year olds. And, while they did their parts so sweetly, I could feel tears rolling down my face. When the President spoke last evening about this terrible tragedy, and reminded us that this was the 4th time since he's been in office that he has spoken to groups and families after other mass shootings. That, I found, to be so alarming. When you think about this, since government has taken God out of schools, we are seeing more and more young people floundering with many issues that either end in suicide or they vent their confusing issues by lashing out in such violence at others, with such tragic consequences. If these killers don't have any connection with a church, or a loving pastor or possibly a good youth pastor or SOMEONE they can talk to about their issues and confusion, they feel so alone and heavily burdened with their own issues, they are completely lost to be able to discern right from wrong. And, they put their evil plan in motion. There are other laws that as well that have changed our country in a negative way. But, removing God from all activities and barring students from congregating in their schools to have prayer gatherings, etc., we are witnessing horrible violence. This is a sad commentary INDEED and should be a wake-up call to our government. Our country was based on Christianity and our founders knew well that only by faith could they begin to write our constitution and many other documents that were going to affect people in the United States of America. Thus, now I pray that our government would look closely at the decisions that have been made. We need to pray for common sense to return to those that call themselves leaders in our great country. Go back to our roots if you will.
I apologize for going on and on, but, this horrible circumstance at the elementary school truly opened my eyes. I know your blog should not be the place for me to state my feelings and views, so forgive. me I really felt compelled to comment. The senseless deaths of 20 small children, their principal and teachers awakened me and I hope it did the same with others. How I mourn the loss of so many innocent victimes.
I love you Karol and will be praying that you have a very Merry Christmas and may you be richly blessed in every way in the coming year. Ruth
